One week after admitting to authorities that he fatally stabbed and shot his grandmother during an argument, Ryan Wayne Koebel will appear before Callaway Judicial Circuit Judge Carol England on a string of charges that include murder and multiple counts of assault on a law enforcement officer.

Koebel, 17, has his initial appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at the Callaway County Courthouse. He is charged with one count first-degree murder, three counts first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and four counts armed criminal action.

According to the probable cause statement, Koebel — who lived with his grandparents — had a dispute with his grandmother, Karen K. Cates, 60, on the morning of Jan. 20.
