2 in custody following pursuit

A 33-year-old Jefferson City man was arrested Sunday after fleeing from Jefferson City police who attempted to stop him at a Walmart parking lot and caught him after a foot chase in Holts Summit.

At about 5 p.m. Sunday, Jefferson City police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle at Walmart, 724 West Stadium Drive. Officers located the vehicle as it was leaving the parking lot. After receiving information the registered owner had a warrant for arrest, officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit began.

The pursuit continued eastbound on Stadium, then on to U.S. 54 eastbound toward Holts Summit.

A passenger in the vehicle left the car at the first Holts Summit exit and was taken into custody by pursuing officers. The pursuit continued into Holts Summit onto Hayes Street, where the suspect eventually left the vehicle on foot in an attempt to evade officers.

After a search of the area, officers were able to locate the suspect. He was taken into custody for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

Names were not released pending the filing of formal charges. No one was hurt during the pursuit.
