Lady Blue Jays 'get back to us,' back to top seed

Days after the Westminster College Lady Blue Jays lost 55-53 to Fontbonne University on Feb. 8 in St. Louis, head coach Tracey Braden received a visit from senior point guard and captain Rachel Backes.

After posting a record 30 straight St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season wins, Westminster had just lost for a second time in its last four conference games.

Backes' suggestion for getting off the skid was for the Lady Blue Jays to "get back to us."

Since then, all Westminster has done is win its final three regular-season games, wrap up a second consecutive SLIAC regular-season title and bring the conference's postseason tournament back to Iba Court for a second straight year. The Lady Blue Jays - the tournament's top seed - take on No. 4 Webster University at 8 tonight.
