Pae rolls to state title at 129, McClure takes second at 145

— As luck would have it, junior Cody Pae just happened to become the 13th state champion in Fulton Hornets wrestling history.

But make no mistake, serendipity had no influence whatsoever on Pae’s rousing run to his first state title at the 82nd MSHSAA Wrestling Championships.

Pae allowed little resistance from John Burroughs senior Cory Lester, striking him down in a 7-0 decision to collect the Class 2 state championship at 126 pounds late Saturday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.

Meanwhile, Fulton senior Zack McClure fell just short in duplicating Pae’s feat. McClure bowed in a narrow 4-2 decision to Excelsior Springs junior Brennan Johnson for the state title at 145 pounds.
