With new menu items, the Fulton Diner opened Wednesday at 2101 North Bluff St. in Fulton at the former location of Diner 54.

"It's truly a family business," said owner Mehmedali Dervisi. "I work here, my wife Lazime works her, my son Kushtrim works here, and my daughter Zimile works here."

All of the other previous staff at Diner 54 also have been retained by the new owner of the restaurant.

The staff includes seven waitresses, three cooks and one dishwasher.

Of Albanian descent, Dervisi came to Fulton from Yorkville, Ill. He has introduced an Albanian salad to go along with traditional American cuisine. "The salad includes lettuce, feta cheese, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, boiled eggs and cucumbers - with a choice of dressing," Dervisi said.

The menu retains all of the previous choices available at Diner 54 plus some new items.

Traditional steaks, salads, fajitas, pastas and sandwiches and desserts remain on the menu.
