Slick roads blamed for accidents

Slick roads caused by the season's first snow storm on Thursday are blamed for causing three accidents and four injuries in Callaway County, and two fatalities and two more injuries in Gasconade County.

The first accident with injuries in Callaway County occurred at 1:30 p.m. Thursday during high winds and blowing snow on I-70 when a Freightliner heavy truck driven by Richard A. Loeffler, 57, Lake St. Louis, ran into the rear of a 2013 Volvo driven by Vitaliy I. Sharkevich, 44, Spokane Valley, Wash.

Loeffler was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia with minor injuries. The accident was in the westbound lane of I-70 about six miles west of Kingdom City.
