First snow of season predicted today in Fulton

County road crews on alert to plow snow

With the first day of winter looming on Friday, motorists in Central Missouri face the possibility of snow today.

Missouri Department of Transportation and Callaway County Road and Bridge crews are ready if needed to plow away any accumulation of snow.

Callaway County Highway Administrator Paul Winkelmann said all county road employees are on alert and will be ready for action if needed this morning.

"We have our cinder bins full and ready for the winter," Winkelmann said.

During light snow situations such as predicted today, Winkelmann said county crews will begin plowing county blacktop roads first. "Heavier accumulation of snow is required before we start on graveled roads," Winkelmann said.

The U.S. Weather Bureau forecast for today in Fulton is rain before 7 a.m., then snow is likely between 7 a.m. and noon.

Winds are expected to be sweeping into the Fulton area from the northwest from 15 to 20 mph. and increasing to 27 to 32 mph. during the morning hours when snow is expected.
