When Jayla Kemp of Fulton returned from school recently she had a surprise waiting in her backyard.
A large playhouse and play structure had been assembled in her backyard, thanks to Westlake’s Ace Hardware employees in Fulton and other Central Missouri cities who teamed up to surprise Jayla.
Jayla has battled cystic fibrosis since birth. Last April she became the first child from Mid-Missouri to be named as a Children’s Miracle Network ambassador to other children with the illness throughout Missouri.
As the Children’s Miracle Network champion in Missouri, Jayla will visit Washington, D.C. and travel to Disney World.
Westlake’s Ace Hardware is one of the national sponsors of the Children’s Miracle Network.
Since Jayla was the first Central Missouri child honored as the Children’s Miracle Network’s champion, Westlake employees in Central Missouri wanted to do something special for her.
During her battle with cystic fibrosis, Jayla has spent a lot of time at the University of Missouri Children’s Hospital in Columbia. Her mother, Michelle Kemp, is in charge of special events at the hospital.
