Driver going wrong way on I-70 dies in crash

A young St. Louis woman was killed early Friday morning when the vehicle she was driving the wrong way on Interstate 70 crashed head-on with another vehicle. The accident shut down eastbound I-70 near Kingdom City for almost three hours.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Emily Ferguson was traveling west on the eastbound side of the interstate at 3 a.m. Friday when she drove head-on into an eastbound vehicle driven by Charles Mills, 39, of St. Peters.

Ferguson was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:17 by Dori Burke with the Boone County Coroner's Office. Mills was transported to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.

This is the 59th fatality for Troop F for 2012.
