Smith drops out of public administrator race

Kitty Zeugin now Republican candidate for position

Callaway County voters will see a different name on the general election ballot than was on the primaries this year.

Republican Public Administrator candidate Marcia Smith has withdrawn from the race after taking a state job as a research analyst with the Department of Corrections, which made her ineligible to run for state office. Kitty Zeugin will now face off against Democrat incumbent Karen Digh Allen for the position.

Smith said she opted to take the position for the security a steady paycheck offered.

"Having obligations that need to be made every month, I chose to take the bird in the hand as opposed to going with the possibility of winning and the possibility of losing in the fall," said Smith. "I'm not ready to retire yet."
