Columbia man arrested on burglary charges

Roy Shields Jr., 23, Columbia, was arrested Saturday night by Callaway County Sheriff’s deputies on burglary and stealing charges.

Sgt. Kevin Foley of the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a residence in northwest Callaway County at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to answer a report of a burglary in progress.

When deputies arrived the suspect had fled from the scene of the burglary.

The victim reported he had interrupted the burglary when he came home Saturday evening. The victim confronted the suspect with a handgun. During a scuffle, the weapon was fired once but no one was struck by the bullet, Foley said.

After an investigation, Shields was located at his relative’s residence a short distance away from the burglary.
