The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) has announced the approval of projects in California and Fulton under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
The city of California has been approved for a CDBG in the amount of $104,600.
The CDBG will be utilized for the demolition of 10 housing units and two mobile homes.
Each unit proposed for demolition will be inspected for asbestos by a Missouri Department of Natural Resources licensed asbestos inspector.
The city of Fulton has been approved for a CDBG in the amount of $250,000.
The CDBG will be utilized to remove all hazardous substances and demolish an empty 66,000-square foot building, formerly used as a manufacturing facility.
This building is no longer viable and is in a dangerous state.
The building has a collapsing roof and floor and it contains both lead and asbestos.
Once the building has been removed, the city will backfill, grade and seed the lot.
At its own expense, the city has conducted a review for this project to determine the level of hazardous materials, their locations and to help determine the size and cost of this project.
