More than 21 local restaurants, businesses, groups and organizations will be bringing a dish to Westminster College’s first Taste of Callaway event Sunday.
The event encourages area restaurants, churches and service organizations to bring small samples of popular or signature dishes for Westminster students to sample during their New Student Welcome Week events before classes commence. More than 300 students are expected to visit Taste of Callaway, where the main course will be barbecue provided by the campus’ food contractor, Fresh Ideas.
Emily Grand, a Westminster senior and chair of the school’s community relations committee, first developed the idea for Taste of Callaway when her advisor informed her of some food fairs and different events that other colleges have held throughout the nation.
“It seemed like a really cool idea, and it just became part of Welcome Week,” said Grand. “We expanded (welcome) to an actual week of welcoming students back to campus, so we wanted it to be as big and exciting as it could be, and give students the chance to experience Fulton right off the bat.”
