Mokane council to repair alley, test water

An alley here will give Mokane cars a little less trouble, thanks to a grant from the county commissioner's office.

City Clerk Dee Pfeiffer informed the council that the city was eligible for approximately $1,162 in road funds from the county at their monthly meeting Monday. The council quickly and unanimously agreed to use the funds to repair an unleveled downtown alley that has caused cars and trucks to bottom out.

Though it was not a great sum of money, Mayor Tom Shackelford said the project should be affordable thanks in part to supplies remaining from an earlier project.

"There's a lot that needs to get done, but we don't always have the money," said Shackelford. "We just do what we can, when we can."
