Holts Summit approves $222,000 sidewalk project

The Holts Summit Board of Aldermen Monday night approved a low bid of $220,000 to construct a sidewalk and culverts from the North Elementary School along South Summit Drive to Simon Boulevard.

Holts Summit City Administrator Brian Crane said the four-foot sidewalk also would include installation of curbing along with a culvert most of the way.

Crane said the project was financed by a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

The low bidder on the project was the Sam Gaines Construction Co. of New Bloomfield.

Crane said a $50,000 crosswalk and speed detection sign will also be installed from another grant the city will receive later.

Work will start at the end of this month on the sidewalk project, which is planned to be completed by the end of May.

The board also approved leasing city park ball fields for $1 for the summer to Holts Summit Optimist Club, which will organize and operate softball and T-Ball programs.

The YMCA of Callaway County also plans to operate a soccer program this summer and also was leased an area in Greenway Park for $1.

The board approved a plan to allow a barbecue cook-off competition on May 26.
