Matthews' monster effort energizes Hornets

Fulton senior Jake Matthews started the day on the mound and then moved to third base. But he stayed all over the pitching of the Mexico Bulldogs on Thursday night.

"This is a first for me," Matthews said. "I don't know if I've ever had a week like this."

The sticks have been big, for the most part, in the Fulton Hornets' dugout over the last three games. And the biggest of them all might belong to Matthews. He was 4-for-4 with six runs batted in to spark the Hornets' 11-8 North Central Missouri Conference victory over rival Mexico at the high school athletic complex.
