KPI, UW offer opportunity to "shred it and forget it'

Celebrity banquet to be held April 14

Kingdom Projects and the Callaway County United Way are asking area residents to let them help dispose of sensitive paperwork during the month of April to help them raise money.

With Shred It and Forget It, locals can take their sensitive papers to Kingdom Projects to be shredded - with a $5 donation per 30 gallon trash bag - to be shredded. Proceeds will be split between Kingdom Projects and the United Way.

"We thought April would be a good month (to do this) with it being tax time," said Callaway County United Way Executive Director Kathy Richey Liddle. "It's just something new."

Kingdom Projects Director Lon Little said he came up with the idea for the fundraiser after a United Way training session.

"We do paper shredding anyway - we thought this would be a way to utilize the United Way's larger network," Little said. "We thought it would be a way for more people to be aware we have this (paper shredding) available."

He said he hopes area residents will take advantage of this opportunity to take care of a chore while supporting two local causes. Kingdom Projects is a sheltered workshop employing individuals with disabilities that operates a number of recycling projects.

"It's a good way to get rid of paperwork they have but don't want to put in the trash," Little said. "Their paper gets recycled and they give funds to worthy programs."

Richey Liddle said the United Way certainly could use the extra boost.

"We're still estimating to be about $8,000 short (of our goal for the year)," she said. "Every bit of help we can get would be appreciated."

From now until April 30, individuals can bring their paper to Kingdom Projects, 2611 N. Business 54, Fulton, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Callaway County United Way has another fundraiser coming up soon: Its annual Celebrity Waiter Banquet on April 14 in the banquet room at Sir Winston's.
