Lady Wildcats medal three to win Class 1 District 3 title

New Bloomfield has fielded a girls' golf team for the past four seasons and now they have a little hardware to show off. The Lady Wildcats had three medalists and shot a team score of 404 to win the Class 1 District 3 golf championship at Tanglewood Golf Course on Wednesday afternoon.

Ten schools participated in the competition, but only eight had enough members to place in the team standings. The Lady Wildcats bested Sacred Heart by 12 strokes to win the title.

Senior Ashtin Withers was New Bloomfield's high finisher with an 18-hole total of 82, good for third place. Senior Shannon Crumpton came in ninth place with a 99 and senior McKinzie Welschmeyer's round of 103 placed her in 12th place.

Freshman Ashley Kelley registered a score of 120 and sophomore Alex Withers had the shot a 124, though her score wasn't counted toward the final team count.

Ashtin Withers and Welschmeyer's scores were both personal best.

"Winning districts was a a team goal from the beginning of the year, and this was an outstanding effort by the entire team," New Bloomfield head coach Debbie Cuno said. "The seniors really stepped up and met the challenge and we are all looking forward to Sectionals."

The Lady Wildcats travel to the Redfield Golf Course in Eugene for Sectional play. They'll tee off next Wednesday at 9 a.m.
