Identity of second victim confirmed in double homicide

AUXVASSE - Almost three weeks after her body was discovered in the remains of her father's home, Amanda Wieberg has been officially identified as the second victim in a double homicide that occurred near Auxvasse on Sept. 2.

"The second body was confirmed to be Amanda Wieberg by the medical examiner's office," Capt. Darryl Maylee with the Callaway County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday afternoon.

He said the investigation into the murders of Amanda Wieberg, 33, and Michael Wieberg, 56, continues, noting members of a special task force still are following up a string of leads.

Maylee said there was no breaking news to report in the Sept. 8 homicide of Deborah Bates at her home in Millersburg, although deputies are still working on the case.

Progress continues in the investigation of a string of burglaries in Callaway and Audrain counties as well.

"We're still recovering property and going through and trying to discover who the property belongs to," Maylee said.

He said the sheriff's office would welcome input from the public on all three cases.

"If anyone out there has any information that might help us, we encourage them to call," Maylee said.

Anyone with information pertinent to either investigation is encouraged to contact the Callaway County Sheriff's Office at (573) 642-7291. Anonymous tips also can be made through Callaway County Crime Stoppers at (573) 592-2474.
