Senior forward Jake Pierce tallied two goals and assisted on two others Tuesday night, directing the Fulton Hornets soccer team to a 7-0 blistering of Boonville in its North Central Missouri Conference opener.
Sophomore forward Trevor Neal also supplied two goals and an assist for Fulton (3-1), which was playing its first home match of the season.
Senior goalkeeper Sam Mayne was credited with his second shutout of the season as the Hornets limited Boonville to only two shots.
“The guys came out of the gate ready to play, both offensively and defensively,” Fulton head coach Brad Oestreich said. “This was our best game of the year so far.”
The Hornets — who amassed 33 shots and four corner kicks — were also aided by goals from junior midfielder Ben Kucera, junior forward Zach Thomas and freshman midfielder Kevin Wallace. Senior defender Morgan Milligan and senior forward Chad Davis recorded assists.
Fulton, sparked by freshman forward Austin Wilson’s two goals, picked up its first junior varsity win of the season 3-1. Freshman forward Ricky Dawson also scored for the Hornets (1-1).
Fulton travels to Marshall for an NCMC encounter at 5 p.m. Thursday. The junior varsity will play first.
