Enrollment starts Nov. 14 for SURE farm payments

In addition to low-interest emergency loans available for this year's crop losses, Callaway County farmers also can seek federal payments for last year's losses.

Darrell Campbell, director of the Callaway County USDA Farm Service Agency, said the Callaway County office will begin accepting enrollment applications on Nov. 14 for the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments (SURE) program for the 2010 crop year.

Payments for the SURE program are processed at least one year after the crop results for an entire year are known because crop insurance payments are used to calculate SURE benefits.

"The SURE program provides assistance to producers when disaster strikes," Campbell said. "So I strongly encourage producers with 2010 crop losses to contact the Callaway County Farm Service Agency office to learn more about the program."
