Auxvasse debates water, sewer rate increases

AUXVASSE - Water and sewer rate increases may soon be in the forecast for residents here.

A citizen approached the Auxvasse Board of Aldermen with concerns over rate increases during the board's regular meeting Tuesday evening. The comments sparked discussion between the members and the man about the city's need for an overhaul of its water and sewer infrastructure.

Alderman Terry Walker said the city has only been putting "Band-Aids" on the problem for years.

"We have to look at fixing our infrastructure," he said.

Alderwoman Stephanie Leverett explained that the city will not get federal grant approval until it raises rates.
