Fulton schools enrollment seeing upswing

The latest enrollment projections for Fulton Public Schools show an encouraging trend over the next several years.

After going from a 2,261 enrollment in grades K-12 for the 2006-07 school year to 2,175 for 2011-12, the district's student population is predicted to improve steadily over the next five years, reaching a projected 2,277 students in 2016-17.

"This shows we're going to start climbing; we're going to get up to the level of 2006-07 in about four years," Superintendent Jacque Cowherd said during Wednesday night's regular school board meeting. "I'm optimistic our enrollment has stabilized, and is going to be creeping up."

Cowherd also had good news regarding attendance - one of several state performance standards Fulton did not meet for 2010-11, with an average daily attendance (ADA) of 94.3 percent district-wide. The state standard is 95 percent.

"Right now attendance is pretty good. We have 95.6 percent attendance," Cowherd said. "We even have seven more students than we had at this same time last year."
