A small group of Callaway County mule boosters gathered Saturday at the New Bloomfield Saddle Club Arena for the 2011 Mid-Mo Mule Show that featured a wide variety of races and skill events.

The event was hosted by Wallace and Michelle Alford of New Bloomfield, who take care of the New Bloomfield Saddle Club Arena, located on Missouri TT about two miles east of New Bloomfield.

“This Mule Show is to benefit maintenance for the arena. Half of the entry fee money for various events and races goes to benefit the arena and the other half is for prize money,” Alford said.

The event got underway with the Ride-A-Buck bareback event.

Competitors were required to hold a dollar bill between their inside knee and the mule while riding it bareback. The event started with the mule walking, then a trot and then a gallop. The last competitor with the dollar bill still under her knee was Emily Caldwell.
