Morland, T-Birds stay on a roll

BRENTWOOD - Junior wingback Levi Morland and the North Callaway Thunderbirds are picking up momentum as they prepare for the onset of district play.

Morland rushed for a career-high 171 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns Friday night as North Callaway resisted Brentwood's second-half rally to preserve a 26-21 victory over the Eagles.

The win was the second in a row and third in the last four games for the Thunderbirds, who moved their season record to 3-4. Brentwood - which trailed 20-0 at halftime but gave North Callaway some tense moments over the final 24 minutes - is also 3-4.

"It was a good team victory, but we didn't finish like I wanted us to do," Thunderbirds head coach Mike Emmons said.

North Callaway needed one final defensive stop to ditch the Eagles. Brentwood drove the ball to the Thunderbirds' 15-yard line with less than 4 minutes to play in the game, but North Callaway's defense stuffed a running play on third down and the Eagles were flagged for a personal foul on a late hit.
