Portland Community Building nears completion

The shell of the new Portland Community Building is up, but there still is plenty of work to do on the interior before it is considered complete. The Community Building Board will host its annual shooting match fundraiser on Oct. 8. Proceeds will go toward restoration.

PORTLAND - The new Portland Community Building may appear to be finished from the outside, but there still is plenty of work to do on the interior before it is fully ready for use.

Volunteers worked Friday to hook up electricity and install plumbing for the two bathrooms, but the interior walls are not finished and none of the furniture or appliances planned to make the community building usable have been purchased.

According to fundraising chairman Paul Pealer, the Portland Community Association still needs approximately $20,000 to reach that goal.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
