Kingdom City woman involved in head-on fatal crash Sunday

A Kingdom City woman driving a pickup the wrong way on U.S. 54 at 2:30 a.m. Sunday was involved in a head-on collision near Brazito in Cole County that killed an Eldon man.

The crash caused both lanes of U.S. 54 to be closed for two hours during the early morning hour.

Ten Missouri State Highway Patrol officers, Cole County Sheriff's deputies and Jefferson City Police officers assisted with traffic control along the highway after the fatal crash.

One lane of the highway was reopened after two hours but officers continued to work at the scene for several more hours.

A few minutes before the crash occurred, the Jefferson City dispatch center had alerted all law enforcement officers in the area to investigate a citizen report of a vehicle driving in the wrong way along U.S. 54 south of Jefferson City. The accident occurred near Brazito, which is 10 miles south of Jefferson City.
