Junior guard Ashlee Taylor banked in a 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play Friday night, helping lift the No. 23 William Woods University Lady Owls to a 65-62 victory over Culver-Stockton College at Anderson Arena.
The game was tied 30-30 at halftime, but Culver-Stockton was able to open up a 48-38 lead with 12 minutes, 31 seconds left in the game. William Woods, though, answered with a 19-9 run, tying the game 57-57 on senior guard Ciara Tatum’s basket with under 4:00 to play.
The Lady Owls went in front on their next possession when senior center Miranda Loesch was fouled and hit both ends of a 1-and-1 opportunity. William Woods led the rest of the way, outside of one possession, setting up Taylor’s pivotal shot.
Senior guard Sharron Andrews — who was 6-of-9 from the field — guided the Lady Owls (3-2) with 15 points. Senior forward Megan Aubuchon also tallied 14 points and freshman guard Blake French contributed 11 as William Woods shot 48 percent (26-of-54) as a team and committed 16 turnovers.
Andrews also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Owls, who were outrebounded by a 38-31 margin.
Aneshia Starks connected for a game-high 22 points to pace three players in double figures for Culver-Stockton (4-3), which shot 42 percent (26-of-62) from the field and totalled 19 turnovers. Monica Wilson added 14 points and Jessie Logsdon provided 10.
William Woods travels to Kansas City to face Avila University at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
