New Bloomfield shelves plans for city hall renovations

— After checking the city budget, Mayor Terry Shaw Thursday night told the New Bloomfield Board of Aldermen he has decided to drop immediate plans to renovate the interior of city hall.

At last month’s meeting, Shaw said he wanted to renovate the interior of city hall. He said he wanted to eliminate all filing cabinets and old desks and replace them with modern L-shaped work areas. Shaw also wanted to replace carpeting. The mayor had directed the city clerk to pursue electronic storage of records.

The board last month also authorized the city clerk to advertise for a part-time position of deputy city clerk.

But Shaw said after reviewing this year’s budget and starting to prepare next year’s budget, he decided to postpone hiring a deputy city clerk and revisit the idea after the 2012 budget has been completed.
