MOKANE — With mud shackling a pair of potent offenses, the Blair Oaks Falcons blindsided the state-ranked South Callaway Bulldogs with a gimmick.

Blair Oaks displayed some daring with the game scoreless and the first half winding down. Calling a timeout with two-tenths of a second left, the Falcons deftly executed a hook-and-ladder play for a 58-yard touchdown to jolt South Callaway and put Blair Oaks up 7-0 at the break.

The trickery seemed to spark the Falcons and Blair Oaks added a second-half score before holding on for a 14-8 victory over the No. 9 Bulldogs in a Class 2 sectional.

South Callaway had one last chance to rally, but senior quarterback Konrad Kemper’s pass to senior wide receiver Ben Seitz only went for 8 yards on a fourth-and-13 with 55 seconds to play. The Falcons took over possession, running out the clock and ending the Bulldogs’ season.
