MINNEAPOLIS — Westminster senior running back Zain Gower continued his late-season surge with 147 yards and two touchdowns in the Blue Jays’ 30-13 win over Crown College on Saturday at the annual Dome Day game. The victory pushed Westminster to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Gower scored on a pair of second quarter runs that spanned 13 and 11 yards respectively, giving him four touchdowns and 349 yards rushing in the last two games. As a team, the Blue Jays rushed for 193 yards on 45 carries and passed for 169 yards. Junior quarterback Kurt Gould threw for 97 yards on 11-of-17 passing.
Sophomore signal-caller Scott Rodgers threw for just 72 yards on nine attempts and a touchdown. The 22-yard toss to Givens was Westminster's final score of the day, as he finished with 109 yards receiving on 10 catches. The Blue Jays held Crown to 237 yards of offense and forced three turnovers.
Westminster closes out the season this week at home against Presentation. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
