FSH employee faces discipline after firing weapon at hospital

A Fulton State Hospital employee is facing severe disciplinary action after he accidentally fired a weapon Thursday in the hospital's administration building.

Bob Reitz, Fulton State Hospital chief executive officer, confirmed Wednesday the incident occurred on Thursday, May 5.

Reitz said the employee is covered by the state merit system and he is not permitted to disclose the name of the person who is facing disciplinary action. Reitz said he also cannot disclose the nature of the discipline or whether the employee will be fired.

Reitz said no one is permitted to bring a firearm onto hospital grounds.
