Although Fulton officials reiterated their stance that residential trash pick-up rates are not likely to go up in the near future, the city council approved an increase for roll-off fees during its regular meeting Tuesday night.
"We've had one week of hauling to Jefferson City. The trucks are getting about 4 miles per gallon," Solid Waste Manager J.C. Miller said. "Because of the new emissions control regulations, the best we can hope for is 5 miles per gallon."
With the cost of diesel fuel continuing to hover around $4 per gallon, Director of Administration Bill Johnson told council members, "The need to adjust the roll-off rate is necessary."
