Lady Hornets shut out Marshall at home to remain undefeated

Fulton sophomore stopper Anna Finke assisted on three of four scores in Fulton's 4-0 North Central Missouri Conference over Marshall on Monday night. The win improved the Hornets to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

Finke fed Hornets sophomore forward Adrienne Ebersol won the first goal at the 30 minute mark of the first half for the eventual game-winning goal. Sophomore left midfilelder Kate Stenner got the first of her two goals later in the first half off an assist from junior center midfielder Lola Weiss to close the half out with a 2-0 Fulton lead.

"They had a wonderful night of team play with crisp passing and good communication," head coach Kati Wallace said. "It was great team work from the first minute to the very last."

Weiss scored and Stenner benefited from the final two Finke assists that led to goals. Fulton outshot Marshall 26-2 on the day and Hornets senior goalkeeper Liz Foreman had three saves in getting the shutout win.

The Hornets junior varsity team got its first win of the season with a 2-1 win over Marshall on Monday night. Fulton got goals from Erin Russell and Wendy Chavez in the win. The Hornets play at Fatima tonight at 5:30 p.m.

New Bloomfield's Withers finishes second in 3200

FATIMA - Ashtin Withers finished second in the girls 3200 meter run at Fatima High School on Thursday. WIther's finished in a time of 13:52. Withers also took four place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:43.62

Chelsea Wiler took third and fourth place respectively in the 100-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Wiler finished her sprint in a time of 18.35 seconds and had a jump of 29'9 1/2. Withers took eighth in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 1:04.09.

On the boys side, Colton Carrier had top five finishes in three events. Carrier took third place in the 100-meter run with a time of 12.19 seconds and third in the 200 meter run in a time of 25.19 seconds. His triple jump of 34'5 placed him in fifth and his 58.24 in the 400-meter run put him in fourth place. Tyler Spurgeon took fifth place in the 800-meter run with a school record time of 2:15.62.

LEBANON, Ill., - The Owls Monday afternoon loss to American Midwest Conference rival McKendree was the team's seventh straight. William Woods scored five in the bottom half of the seventh inning after being down 7-0 but couldn't quite complete the comeback.

Junior pitcher Kelsey Schulte took the loss for the Owls going seven innings and giving up six earned runs on 10 hits. Schulte settled down from giving up two runs in the first to strike out eight McKendree batters. Freshman shortstop Lindsay LeCuru went 2-for-4 with two RBI's to lead the Owls. Her two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning started the scoring for William Woods (12-11, 0-4 AMC).

The Owls continue conference play at Hannibal-LaGrange on Thursday at 2 p.m.
