Lechner wins three events at Hermann

South Callaway senior Bryan Lechner won both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, as well as the long jump, to steer the Bulldogs to a third-place finish at the season-opening Hermann quad meet Thursday.

In the girls' division, freshman Taylor Howard took second in both the 400 and pole vault as South Callaway finished fourth overall.

Lechner triumphed in the 110 and 300 hurdles with respective times of 16.05 and 42.33 seconds, and was victorious in the long jump with a school-record leap of 20 feet, 8 inches. He also was part of the 1,600 relay - along with juniors Cody Waterson and Micheal Campbell, and sophomore Glen Healy - that came in second in 3:58.93.

Waterson also finished third in the high jump (5-2) and fourth in the 800 (2:25.02) to help pace the South Callaway boys, who accumulated 40.5 points. He joined sophomores Nick DeBrodie, Trent Hosenfelt and Kyle Toney on the 3,200 relay that came in second in 9:53.69.

Other top finishers for the Bulldogs included Toney, fourth in the 3,200 (12:13.47); junior TJ Buchholz, fourth in the long jump (17-4 1/4) and eighth in the 200 (:26.60); the 400 relay of Buchholz, Healy, freshman Seth Markley and Campbell, fourth in :51.16; DeBrodie, fifth in the 800 (2:26.30) and sixth in the 1,600 (5:27.00);

Hosenfelt, fifth in the 300 hurdles (:51.94); Healy, sixth in the 300 hurdles (:53.27); Campbell, sixth in the triple jump (32-7 1/2); freshman Josh Brooks, seventh in the discus (83-6), and Markley, seventh in the long jump (32-7 1/2) and eighth in the 100 (:12.88).

Howard logged a second-place time of 1:03.98 in the 400 and was second in the pole vault at 7-6 as the South Callaway girls finished with 29 points. She was also a member of the 1,600 relay - along with twin sophomore sisters Serina and Jaerie Booher, and freshman Clara Norris - that placed fourth in 5:00.05.

Serina Booher also came in second in the 300 hurdles (:58.20) and third in the 100 hurdles (:19.97).

Also placing for the Lady Bulldogs were freshman Abigail Luebbert, third in the 1,600 (6:13.15); junior Kelly Miles, third in the long jump (11-11) and eighth in the 200 (:32.65); freshman Marina Wimmer, third in the shot put (27-11); freshman Andi Rodriguez, fifth in the 800 (3:04.06), and Norris, fifth in the 100 hurdles (:21.22) and eighth in the 400 (1:15.84).

Both South Callaway teams compete in the Linn Invitational at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31.

Hornets reschedule

Marshall baseball game

Fulton's North Central Missouri Conference home baseball game against Marshall - postponed Friday because of the weather and wet conditions at Hensley Field - has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, April 25.

The Hornets (1-1) play at Eldon at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

team drops doubleheader

Fulton's freshman baseball team opener fell in its season opener, losing a doubleheader to Blair Oaks 6-2 and 12-0 at Hensley Field on March 22.

Right fielder Kegan Lee drove in a run in the first game for the Hornets, who host a 5 p.m. doubleheader against Jefferson City Helias on Monday, April 4.
