Holts Summit candidate forum set Tuesday

A candidate forum for contests involving the Holts Summit area will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mid America Bank in Holts Summit.

The forum for candidates in the April 5 election is co-sponsored by the Holts Summit Community Betterment Association, the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce, and the Fulton Area Development Corporation. The three Callaway County organizations have co-sponsored the Holts Summit candidate forum since 2007.

Invited participants include the four candidates for the Board of Education in the Jefferson City School District, which includes the Holts Summit area.

The candidates are Marie Peoples, Tami Turner, John Ruth, and Larry D. Henry Jr. The three candidates receiving the most votes will each serve three-year terms.

Although they have no opposition, candidates for the Holts Summit Board of Aldermen also have been invited to participate if they want.

In Ward I, incumbent Jason Michael is the only candidate whose name will appear on the ballot. No one filed for the Ward 2 seat now held by Alderman Paul Buckley, who plans to move from the city. Since the filing deadline had passed with no one filing in Ward 2, write-in candidates were asked to participate in the election. Landon Oxley has emerged as the lone Ward 2 write-in candidate.

School board candidates have been provided with two questions in advance. Those participating in the forum will take questions from the audience if time permits.
