Auxvasse appoints park committee

After a long period of having its city park committee suspended, Auxvasse will soon have a park board to meet regularly again.

Park committee members were appointed Tuesday evening during the Auxvasse City Council meeting. Mayor Kevin Phares said the committee's primary functions will be to hold fundraisers to benefit the park, come up with ideas for improvements and be responsible for park clean-up days. The council approved the following five people to be on the board: Phares, Jeremy Galen, Missy Barnes, Eldora Lowry and Melissa Bohrn.

City Clerk Missy Hooks informed the council that the city was required to have a school crossing guard at its new crosswalk at the intersection of Route E and Ann Street. As part of the sidewalk project the city worked to complete, MoDOT provided a crosswalk that has to be manned by a crossing guard both before and after school. Hooks said two children came close to being hit by a vehicle recently at the crosswalk, which so far has not been manned by a crossing guard. Council members agreed to try and find someone to perform the duties as soon as possible.

Stephanie Leverett reported that organizing for the Auxvasse Picnic Day planned for 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 25 is going well and many local businesses have been generous about offering donations. It will be the first such city picnic, and Leverett is hoping it will turn into an annual event. Food, activities, a tractor show, and different booths are all planned for the picnic day.
