New Bloomfield schools lose two more administrators

A month and a half after parting ways with former superintendent Chris Small, the school district here now also will be losing two other key administrators at the end of the school year.

The New Bloomfield School Board accepted resignations from both Director of Special Services Sara Lane and High School/Junior High Principal Suzanne Lackman during a special meeting Monday night.

Lane has been with the district for nine years. This is Lackman's second year with the district.

Interim Superintendent Thomas Baugh said neither administrator offered a reason for their decision to leave.

"They just said they had enjoyed working in the district and wished the district well in the future," Baugh said. "They presented their resignations in writing prior to the meeting, but neither one was in attendance at the meeting."

Although there was some advance notice last week, board member Shawn Cockrum said the announcements were a surprise.

"Miss Lane e-mailed the letter last week, but I didn't know about Miss Lackman until today," Cockrum said.

Faced now with replacing three administrators, he said the school board "definitely has some big challenges ahead."

"We're very fortunate our interim superintendent is very experienced and he's going to help us through the process," Cockrum said.

He said the board would discuss how best to approach the situation during its next regular board meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on March 17 in the high school library.
