Trial date set in Plunkett murder case

Sandra Plunkett, 37, Holts Summit, is scheduled to go to trial on Oct. 4 in Callaway County.

Plunkett has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in the killing of her husband, former Jefferson City police officer Paul Plunkett, 52, on Jan. 1.

Plunkett originally told Holts Summit police officers she was outside her home when she saw a man dressed in camouflage with a gun walking down the street. She said she had entered her home and found her husband on the floor, shot in the back of the head.

Plunkett later changed her story, confessed to the killing and showed officers a Marlin .22-caliber rifle she had discarded after shooting her husband in the back of the head.
