County creates proactive plan against Missouri River flooding

With the threat of Missouri River flooding looming this summer along Callaway County's southern border, County officials met Wednesday morning to create a proactive plan to help save lives and property of Callaway County residents living along the river.

During Wednesday's meeting of county emergency management officials, it was decided that when the Missouri River flood stage reaches 28 feet in Jefferson City, it will trigger an immediate reaction from Callaway County Road and Bridge crews. They will purchase several truckloads of sand. Pre-selected volunteers will begin filling and stockpiling sandbags that will be sent to Callaway County towns along the Missouri River, including Mokane,
