A Holts Summit man was sentenced Wednesday by Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce to 10 years in prison for pleading guilty to a charge of first-degree statutory sodomy involving a 6-year-old girl in Jefferson City.
A charge of first-degree child molestation against Anthony Basnett, 27, had been dismissed earlier.
According to a Jefferson City police probable cause statement, Basnett admitted to investigators that he had performed sexual acts on the girl several times between February and May 2010 at a residence on Williams Street.
An investigation was initiated after a child abuse hotline call was received by the Missouri Department of Social Services and the victim's mother contacted police.
Police said Basnett provided a handwritten apology letter addressed to the victim, confessing to the crime.
