Southern Boone cancels tourney

Due to the blizzard that hammered the mid-Missouri area this week, the 2011 Southern Boone Classic - which included the Fulton and North Callaway boys' and girls' basketball teams - was officially cancelled Thursday.

Rescheduling issues also played a factor in the decision to call off the tournament.

The Fulton Hornets (9-8) haven't played since a 41-32 loss to rival Mexico last Sunday night in the MFA Oil/Break Time Shootout at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. The Hornets travel to Kirksville for a North Central Missouri Conference matchup at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Fulton Lady Hornets (7-10) have been off since a 58-49 NCMC victory at Marshall on Jan. 29. The Lady Hornets also visit Kirksville for a conference contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The North Callaway Thunderbirds (4-11) haven't played since a 57-45 Mid-Missouri Conference loss at Southern Boone on Jan. 26. The Thunderbirds go to Harrisburg for an MMC encounter at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The North Callaway Lady Thunderbirds (5-9) have been off since a 60-44 loss at Russellville on Jan. 27. The Ladybirds travel to Harrisburg - ranked No. 3 in Class 2 - for a conference game at 6 p.m. Monday.
