Local group offers youth New Years alternative

Organizers of Youth on Up are offering Callaway County teens a safe way to party this holiday season.

The group is hosting a New Year's Eve party from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the Callaway Electric Cooperative building in Fulton.

"We're catering to high school kids to keep them from having their own parties with alcohol and drugs," Youth on Up volunteer and event organizer Yolanda Smith said. "New Year's Eve is a time when a lot of kids get in accidents.

"We're just trying to get them to do positive things and see they can have fun without drinking and doing drugs."

Cost for the event is $2 per person or $3 per couple, and includes a night of music, dancing, games and supervised fun. Snacks and beverages also will be served.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
