Hornets give Oestreich first career win in opener

CHILLICOTHE - One game in and 2004 Fulton High School graduate and current Hornets soccer coach Brad Oestreich has his first career victory.

Fulton erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with three second-half goals to beat Chillcothe 3-1 in the season opener on Saturday.

Chillicothe forward Steven Looper put a shot past Hornets senior goalkeeper Nick Heimericks 1 minute, 45 seconds into the game to put Chillicothe in front. Heimericks faced 11 shots on goal and settled down from that first tally to make seven saves.

"When we usually play Chillicothe they're not a strong team, but we came out after that first goal and got our composure," Oestreich said.

Sophomore Trevor Neal tied and then won the game for Fulton with two goals after intermission. Senior forward Morgan Milligan added the third score to finish off the Hornets' scoring. Fulton ended the game with 11 shots on goal.

"Trevor's a workhorse and gives it 150 percent all the time," Oestreich said. "He pushed through and worked his way in there."

The Hornets were shut out in the junior varsity game 2-0.

Fulton plays St. Charles at 6 p.m. Monday in the first round of the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament.
