Hearing set in Leonberger case

Willie Leonberger, the North Callaway bus driver charged with involuntary manslaughter after running over a 6-year-old student in January, was scheduled to appear before Associate Circuit Judge Carol England Friday.

Leonberger, 77, of Auxvasse, did not appear at the hearing, but his attorney, Jerome S. Antell, was present.

The prosecuting attorney provided the defense with the state's evidence and results of the investigation conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Another hearing is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 7.

"That gives them time to review the discovery and decide whether or not they want that preliminary hearing or whether they want to waive (Leonberger's right to a preliminary hearing)," said Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson.
