Amber Cox will break new ground in her return to William Woods University.
Cox - a William Woods graduate who has spent nearly seven years as an executive with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury - was named Wednesday as the university's new athletic director. She replaces Larry York, who retired in June after 11 years in the position.
With her hiring, Cox becomes both the first alumna and female to serve as William Woods' athletic director.
"I am so pleased that she has accepted this opportunity; she is going to be a fireball!" Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett, the university's president, said in a press release. "Amber brings a wealth of diverse experience to the position of athletic director.
