Fulton educators declare summer school a success

Despite low enrollment, Fulton Public Schools officials say the 2011 summer school session was a successful one.

Bartley Elementary School Principal Lynne Engle, who also oversees the summer school program, gave the report during Wednesday night's school board meeting, focusing on student improvement as the best measure of its success.

Enrollment in the elementary school basic block started out at 177, with 137 at the end of the session, compared to 218 and 191 in 2010. The high school also saw a drop in enrollment with 89 at the start of the session and 63 at the end, compared to 101 and 86 last year. Numbers stayed steady in the middle school program, with 48 students at the end of the session, compared to 49 last year.
