Fire destroys mobile home

Fire Sunday night destroyed a vacant mobile home in the Callaway Estates about three miles north of Readsville.

Tom Schaefer, a North Callaway Fire Protection District volunteer fireman, said when firemen arrived shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday the fire had flattened the structure.

Schaefer said the owner was not at the residence of the vacant structure and no one was injured. He said neighbors reported the owner of the mobile home was in the process of demolishing it.

"The structure was a total loss," Schaefer said.

Schaefer said firemen extinguished the fire and made sure it did not spread. "There were no other structures nearby," Schaefer said.

The fire in the Callaway Estates subdivision was on Route D, about six miles south of Interstate 70.

Firemen from the Central Fire Protection District also responded to the structure fire.
