Davis is good shot; his crafts highlight good cause

By his own admission, Shane Davis is not the most athletic guy in the world. His dad tried getting him into baseball and basketball, but neither one stuck. Nothing grabbed him as much as hunting and archery had.

“He wasn’t real crazy about baseball or basketball, he played when he was younger, but he liked shooting better,” Jeff Davis, Shane’s father, said. “So we decided we’d keep going with it and that got us to the point we’re at now.”

That point has the younger Davis — a member of the Callaway County 4-H Club — fresh off his third straight trip to the 4-H National Shooting Sports competition in San Antonio this past June. A rising senior at New Bloomfield, the 17-year-old was one of 36 participants from the state of Missouri to travel to the event.
