HS to add motorcycle to police fleet

A motorcycle will be joining the fleet of police vehicles in Holts Summit.

In a special meeting Monday, the board approved a one-year contract with Ozark Harley Davidson to lease a 2011 police motorcycle for one year for $2,250. With training expenses and equipment added, the board expects to spend about $3,000.

This will be the first motorcycle to join the fleet, and is to be used primarily for traffic enforcement on city streets and public relations, said Police Chief Kyle McIntyre.

In other business, the board approved the solicitation of competitive bids for the purchase and installation of fencing around Howard Field at Greenway Park.

City Administrator Brian Crane expects the project to cost more than $3,000.

The board also approved the purchase of two Polaris Ranger all-terrain vehicles from the Missouri State Agency for Surplus Property.

The two ATVs will cost $2,800 total. One of the vehicles will be used for parts.

"These vehicles will be able to be used by all city departments. I can't think of a single department that couldn't use them," said Mayor Lucas Fitzpatrick.

Suggestions for use ranged from expediting snow removal, navigatinghard-to-reach manholes, and even searching for missing persons in wooded areas.

"We see these as multi-functional so can spread out the cost across departments and increase our capabilities," Crane said.
